What constitutes a version?[edit source]

Does the update from 18 December 2018 constitute a version? The patch notes claim it was a ninja server update, but there are changes that affect the clients. According to Clogg, ninja updates do not affect version numbers. Wendalontwitch (talk) 02:17, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

According to patch notes on Steam & Discord the update did indeed affect the client. It's difficult to say how to classify 18 December 2018 update. I believe if there were updates to the client the version should be bumped as well and documented, if there were updates to the server software it should be just noted somewhere. Also there was a client update on 2018-12-19 according to Clogg which mentioned "update in Steam." It is still unclear as to whether this client update has a version number, but I believe it should be listed somewhere as it is very specifically a client update. There needs to be some methodology for listing the deferred server-side changes that apply to an update and retain the date they were released. Should this just be a subheader on the primary client update page? Or since updates can happen without a change in version number, should the primary key we use to reference it just be the date it was released with dot versions behind it? I propose we merge all ninja updates to the previous version unless there's any confirmation that a change to the version number has occurred. If there are too many to simply merge them, you can also move them into their own section under that version. Keeri (talk) 21:40, 6 March 2019 (UTC)
